Kharlovka Fishing Report – Week 28 (4–11 July 2026)

On Saturday we welcomed a new group of guests, among whom there were three young but already quite experienced anglers – Adrian, Mark and Stepan. We are always pleased to see how young fishermen get involved into the fly fishing and come back to our rivers to land new trophies. Most of the team was well-known to us, and Ivan S. came to Kharlovka camp for the very first time. There were also Ivan and Oleg – our good old friends who came to fish for trout.

The weather conditions during the week were changing – from dank, windy, rainy days to a real heat. On the arrival day it was sunny and cool; during the next two days it was mostly cloudy and by Monday evening the air temperature dropped to 7°C. It was a rainy and windy day and the anglers could hardly cast. But on Tuesday morning a south wind changed the conditions drastically – by the end of the day the air warmed up to 22°C and the wind died down. Sunny and warm weather stayed until the end of the week, with light rain occasionally and on Thursday we heard thunder and saw some lightning strikes.

The water temperature changed accordingly – the average in the first couple of days was 14°C, then it dropped to 11.8°C on Tuesday, rose to 15°C the next day and remained at this level until the end of the week. The water level during the week dropped from 13 cm to 4 cm according to the home pool scale.

On the very first half-day of fishing on Saturday Mark managed to land a beautiful male salmon of solid 20 pounds at Kharlovka Falls using a classic Sunray Shadow fly, thus beating his personal best. Mark is a very enthusiastic angler – every day he waited for his teammates and asked about their catch: how many they had caught, where and on what fly.

Stepan showed consistently great results – during the week he landed several good salmon of 11–15 pounds and his biggest one was a 17.6-pound male from Eastern Litza Falls caught on a Skater fly.

Adrian also managed to land several great fish, including this nice 16.7-pounder from Eastern Litza Falls on a Willie Gun.

We congratulate our young guests on their great fishing results and are always happy to see them on the northern rivers for new achievements.

Our new friend Ivan S. began his fishing week at an easy pace and spent a couple of days getting used to the rivers. Starting from Monday he caught a couple of good salmon daily and the biggest among his catch was a 14.3-pound female from Barrel Pool caught on a Sunray Shadow. We were glad to meet him and hope that Ivan will join the great company of our regular guests.

The legendary Big Max was there this week, and we had no doubts who would get the biggest fish of the week. On Sunday he landed a solid 26.4-pound male at Birch Pool closer to Kharlovka Falls. Max also had the best result in terms of the number of fish caught. On Friday he received his diploma and ASR pin and decided to give the pin to Mark – it was one of the most touching and warm moments of the festive Friday evening.

Summer fishing on the northern rivers is always a variety of fishing conditions, a chance to try different flies and fly-fishing tricks to hook that very fish. It is also a chance to admire the beauty of the summer tundra – flowering plants and lots of greenery.

Besides Mark and Max we were also pleased to give a diploma to Ivan K. to congratulate him on his updated personal best for trout – 11 pounds. Thanks to Ivan and Oleg for their exciting stories about this incredible fish and their special approach to trout fishing.

In total the team managed to catch and release over 120 fresh salmon this week. We thank all our guests this week for the warm and friendly atmosphere full of a real passion for fly-fishing. The week passed quickly, loudly and very fast and we are already looking forward to welcoming you back to Kharlovka again.
