Roman came to the lodge in the company of his friends Rodion and Ekaterina. These friends spent their first fishing day on Home pool practicing casting, as neither Roman nor Ekaterina had ever tried to fish with a fly fishing rod before. Everyone was pleasantly surprised when the next day when Roman managed to land a 20lbs silver salmon. Overwhelmed, he unfortunately didn't take a photo with the fish before releasing.

Cool spring condition continue on the far north coast with morning air and water temps of approximately 8C with a slowly dropping water level currently at 67cm on the Home pool scale. Nevertheless the salmon are stacking up at the Kharlovka Falls and starting to take hitched surface flies. Andrey with a fine fresh 29 pounder from the Kharlovka Falls that was landed on a Mikki Pearsson - Sun Ray variant.

Following a cool start to the season, the conditions improved during the second half of the week with air temps warming into the high teens and a current water temp of 10.5C. The river levels are flowing nicely at 59cm on the Home pool scale.
Alexey made the most of the improving conditions hitching flies on the surface going on to land 12 good salmon up to 23 pounds (10.5kg) on a Sun Ray Shadow during his last 2 days on the Litza river.

Igor with a pleasing 26 pounder from the Litza Snowbank pool.

Warm conditions returned to the ASR early week with partly cloudy skies and warm temps into the teens. Anton had a big day on the lower Litza landing 5 good salmon that included a serious battle with this 25 pounder (11.3kg) (new personal best) that he managed to up-wrap the line from the boulders in the Snowbank pool before landing in the net.

It was Big fish Friday on the lower Litza to end last week with Roman managing to eventually land a solid 31 pounder (14.1kg) in the Snowbank pool on a Sun Ray Shadow. This was first week that Roman has ever held a fly rod. He is now firmly hooked!

Rodion had a memorable week fishing on the ASR together with his wife Ekaterina and friend Roman!

On the final day, Rodion hooked into a great salmon on a Sun Ray Shadow in the Snowbank pool on the lower Litza. He began to gradually wind and bring his heavy fish to the bank. Everything was going fine and nothing foreshadowed trouble, when suddenly, with his fish only meters from the net - Rodion's rod cracked in half. Without losing his head for a minute, Rodion handed the broken half with the reel over to his wife and said “Reel!” Rodion then grabbed the line and started to pull the fish to the net. Following a few tense moments of teamwork that will never be forgotten, Rodion brought his great weighing 36 pounds into the net.
